As a guitarist and composer, I have had the distinct pleasure of working with Fred Morgenstern on several dozens of occasions over the last decade. He has been my engineer, my producer, my composition mentor, and my teacher. I don't know of another person who is as brilliant at expressing complex ideas in an understandable way as Fred.
As an engineer, Fred has demonstrated his commanding technical skills at a level that very few people have attained. As a producer, he is able to draw out performances from me like no one I have ever worked with. Because Fred listens well, he is able to get inside an artist's vision so that he may produce concretely what we tell him abstractly.
As a person, Fred is one of the most responsible and reliable people I have ever met. Though he has a a wonderful and sharp sense of humor, he takes his work seriously. He is concerned with the quality of his work the way a professional athlete is concerned with his or her game.
Because of his professionalism, his easy and warm personality, and his unyielding demand for excellence apparent in every detail of his work, I (and almost everyone I know that knows him) hold him in very high esteem.
One last thing about Fred: Did I mention that besides all the aforementioned attributes, Fred is also a virtuoso drummer and percussionist? In fact, his sense of time combined with his elegant tone and feel makes him one of the best drummers to work with in the music business.
